Physical & Mental Wellness

Less expectations of inequality

Less complexity in obtaining health care

= More happiness

The theme of our community is Less is More and it is incorporated into every aspect of society. It does not mean however that the government is small and that the people have to only survive with less but it more of an idea that wants to express that undesirable traits of society get reduced and good, community-benefiting traits encouraged. This concept also applies to physical and mental welfare.

Physical and mental well being are especially important when we consider the second pillar of our society’s ideology: Happiness. A healthy body and a healthy mind go hand in hand with achieving and maintaining long-term happiness which is why this point is one of the crucial parts of our society. In the less is more state every citizen’s health should be taken care of. This means that every citizens has to be able to access a doctor or a hospital without overcoming great physical (distance) and financial struggles. In every community should be a general physician readily available to take care of the pressing needs in daily life. It should take any citizen less than 30 minutes to reach such a doctor from their place of living to ensure that in emergencies they can be taken care of. In order to achieve this the government of the Less is More states steps in and makes health care a public good.

The Less is More government pays for the erection and running of hospitals. As said before in our society a strife for classic luxury goods as they can be found in todays world is discouraged and new luxury goods emerge. The new luxury goods that the citizens strive for includes a good healthcare and therefore they are happy to contribute to the government so the government can maintain a good healthcare system. Due to the increased transparency the citizens can directly see how their contribution benefits the system and in turn them. As said before physical health is pivotal to happiness. The availability of hospitals and doctors influences it by reducing child mortality rate, epidemics, days of sickness and increases life expectancy.

It is however not limited to the physical health. Also the mental health needs to be taken care of. In todays society mental health problems are not  socially accepted problems. They are considered as something shameful or as something that does not even exist. Mental health problems do not receive the same acceptance as physical health problems. In the Less is More society such feelings of non-acceptance are eradicated. Mental health receives the same importance as physical health as it contributes directly to the happiness of the people. Sickness, may it come from a physical or mental source, is taken care of in Less is More. Therapists are readily available in the community and general counseling services by volunteers is encouraged. Therapy is included in public health care and is seen as something that should not be taken care of privately to decrease the burden on the families and the community. With the acceptance of the problems and the availability of  treatment the mental health of the community and its people can be increased.
